Willene Faye Bates, 59, of Asheville, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
Born in Concord, NC, she was a daughter of the late Willie McDougal and Mary Elizabeth Clark. A graduate of Wingate College and Catawba College, she earned her degree in English and worked as a teacher for many years. She was a member of Unity Center of Christianity.
Surviving are her husband of 34 years, Henry C. Bates and her son, Henry C. Bates II of Atlanta, GA.

Willene and I were roommates at Wingate College 40 years ago and have stayed in touch periodically through the years. She spoke with pride many times of her husband and son. My sincere and heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. You will be in our thoughts and prayers during the upcoming days.
