William Edgar Kaufman, III

William Edgar Kaufman, III, 73, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 27, 2014. A native of Sandusky, Ohio, he was the son of the late William E. and Evelyn Mae Bell Kaufman. Bill was a retired newspaper carrier with the Asheville Citizen-Times, with over 50 years of service and was also formerly associated with the Allied Oil and Motor Company. He was a member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence. Bill is survived by his sister, Janet Bunyett and her husband, Gene, of Gonzales, Louisiana; two brothers, David Kaufman and his wife, Cathy, of Fletcher and Robert Kaufman and his wife, Peggy, of Fletcher and Bill's long time special friend, Jane Allen, as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm Monday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Basilica of St. Lawrence, 97 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801.

  1. We will sure miss ‘Wild Bill from Asheville’ as he always signed our Christmas Cards! Uncle Bill was a one of a kind. We always felt his love for us even across the miles. Sympathy for his siblings and their families as well as his friend Jane.

Bill and I had been friends for over 30 years we would get together at the taste diner on Thursdays bill would get hugs from the ladies and then we would talk racing he also enjoyed bringing his collection of pictures of racing and talking about how it use to be in Asheville. I will miss him greatly.

  5. Our hearts and thoughts are with the family during this time of grieving. Please know that you are not alone in remembering a truly wonderful person that meant so much to so many.
