William Frank Ray, 93, of 176 Johnston Boulevard, Asheville,
died Tuesday, September 24, 2002,
in a local nursing center.
Mr. Ray was born in Yancey County and was a son of the late W.W. and Ella Ray. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Donna Lyn Gantt. He was an Army veteran of WW II and was retired from Luther Appliance Service.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Virginia Knight Ray; one
daughter, Virginia Gantt and her
husband Charles of Asheville, one
son, William Eugene Ray and his wife Carol of Lakeland, FL; two sisters, Lucille Robinson of Rocky Mount and Mildred Luckadoo of Asheville; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. LeRoy Denton officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Buncombe County
Veterans Council at Hice Hill
Cemetery.
His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
