Hendersonville ~ Carol Ann Mullen, 84, of Hendersonville, died Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Givens Estates Health Center.
A native of Red Lodge, MT, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Hazel Janes Davis. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Davis.
Carol earned her nursing degree from Mesa Community College in Mesa, AZ. She had a natural calling to the nursing profession and enjoyed the responsibility of caring for the patients. She worked as a nurse in the Phoenix, AZ area and later moved to Virginia Beach, VA where she continued working as a nurse until retiring. Even in retirement, she continued her education by earning her Gerontology certification.
Helping others was a strong trait of hers and she derived great satisfaction in doing so. When her children were younger, she volunteered in helping at their school and recreation programs. She served as a coach for their sports teams and was also on the sidelines cheering them on to do their best.
As a military spouse who moved about every 2 years, she became accustomed to setting up a new home in a strange city and exploring different cultures in foreign countries, always being supportive of her family in these new ventures.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Joseph Michael Mullen, of Hendersonville; one daughter, Julie Ann Perry (Mac) of Garner, NC; two sons, Mike Mullen (Kimberlie) of Baton Rouge, LA and Jeffrey Mullen of Fletcher, NC; two grandsons, Jeremy Mullen and Jared Mullen, as well as one great-grandson, Jacob Mullen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 11, 2018 at St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church with Father Adrian Porras officiating. A Rosary will be said at 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 10 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with a visitation at the funeral home to follow until 6:00 PM. Burial will held in Franklin, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests that donations be made in Carol’s memory to either the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation of North Carolina or to Four Seasons Compassion for Life Hospice.
