George David Williams, 77, of Candler, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
A Buncombe Co. native, George was a son of the late Furman and Gladys Smith Williams. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Williams proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from Cranston Print Works Co., in Fletcher, as a supervisor.
George will be remembered as a beloved husband and a loving father and grandfather. His family was his pride and joy. He was especially involved in the lives of his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He also loved the pets of the entire family, helping to take care of them whenever he was needed. George was always willing to help others. He loved many sports: wrestling, Nascar and basketball, and cooking for family and friends was one of his favorite hobbies.
He is survived by his wife of 47 and a half years, Debbie Slattery Williams; daughters, Nikki Cain (Joey) and Tracy Lintz; son, Brandon Williams (Alisha); grandchildren, Seth and Haley Lovingood and Ashley and Josh Williams; sister, Imogene Helms; brothers, Furman Williams, Jr., Clarence Williams, and Jimmy Williams; and best friend of 57 years, Paul McCary.
A Celebration of George's Life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Pastor Jonathan Michaels will officiate. Inurnment with military honors provided by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
His family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
