Thelma Hargett Jackson, 83, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at her residence after a courageous battle with ALS.
Mrs. Jackson was born in Charlotte, NC to the late Erskin Wesley Hargett and Nell Austin Hargett. She was a proud graduate of the 1953 class of North Mecklenberg High School.
She was a member of Etowah United Methodist Church and cherished her church friends (the breakfast bunch). She enjoyed traveling with Leo and his NASCAR race team (Skoal Bandit Racing) to racetracks near and far.
Mrs. Jackson was a talented stained glass artisan; she loved her dogs, horses, and the white squirrels of her yard. She cared deeply about family and country and was a long time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her husband, Leo Jackson; daughter, Joni Sago and her husband, Brett; two step-daughters, Debbie Jackson and her husband Lee Schwartz and Roxanne Tury; a brother, Steve Hargett and his wife, Sun; a sister, Nancy Tomberlin and her husband, Ken; five grandchildren, Rachael Tury, Ryan Tury, Harrison Jackson, Anna Sago and Mark Sago. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and treasured great-nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 12 at Etowah United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher.
