Marilyn L. Stoia, 85, of Fletcher, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019 due to complications from her battle with cancer.
A native of New Albany, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Tobin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Stoia and her brother, Robert Tobin.
Marilyn was a member of Arden Presbyterian Church and was involved in many women’s groups and Bible studies. She loved to help others, and always had an optimistic outlook on life, which was a witness to many.
She is survived by a daughter, Cathy Carter (Dr. Cameron Carter) of Davis, CA; two sons, Wayne Stoia (Debbie) of Arden and Michael Stoia (Nancy) of Sugarland, TX; seven grandchildren, Luke Stoia (Ashleigh), Trevor Stoia (Kelly), Nicholas Stoia (Lauren), Patrick Stoia (Lauren), Alex Stoia, Christopher Carter and Colin Carter, as well as eight great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 16 at Arden Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dwight Basham officiating. Her family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:30-8:30 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. A committal service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 18 in the Chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain where she will be buried with her husband, John.
