Doris Marie Smith McMahan, 80, of Candler, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center.
A native of Buncombe Co., Mrs. McMahan was a daughter of the late Larkin McKinley and Eula Mason Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Cecil Ernest McMahan, who died last year; daughter, Phyllis Ann McMahan; and siblings, Hazel Sanford and Robert Smith.
Mrs. McMahan retired as a nurse. She had worked at St. Joseph's Hospital for 16 years before working at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center for another 28 years.
Mrs. McMahan was an avid sports fan, cheering hard for the Atlanta Braves, North Carolina Tar Heels, and especially the Enka Sugar Jets. She never missed a home game at Enka and occasionally even traveled to see them play. Her Baptist faith was also important to her, and she had attended Emma Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Patricia McMahan Seely, Sharon McMahan Fardulis, Douglas Allen McMahan, Darryl Keith McMahan, and David Eric McMahan, Sr.; sister, Frieda Coffey; brothers, Gerald Smith and Thomas Smith; grandchildren, Brandon and Justin Baynard, Eric and Christine Seely, David Jr. and Ben McMahan, and Zach Anderson; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Mrs. McMahan will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Green Hills Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.
