Our Classic 1964 Cadillac Funeral Coach
Step into the dignified history of the Groce Funeral Home fleet with this remarkable 1964 S&S Cadillac conversion, a timeless piece that has graced their services for over a decade. Acquired from the esteemed Kent Dorsey of Washburn-Dorsey Funeral Home in Bostic, NC, this elegant hearse has a storied past, having been part of Kent’s collection of vintage vehicles.
A unique twist to this acquisition unfolded when Groce received a special request from the bereaved family of a car enthusiast. Inquiring about older hearses, Groce turned to Kent, who generously lent them this distinctive vehicle. Its allure and functionality left an indelible impression, prompting Groce to make it a permanent addition to their distinguished fleet.
During the 1960s and earlier, funeral homes operated ambulances, and vehicles like this S&S Cadillac conversion served dual purposes. Fitted with sirens, red emergency lights, and jump seats in the rear for ambulance attendants, it carried a legacy of compassionate service. In funeral mode, with jump seats folded and the cot absent, rollers delicately cradled caskets for solemn processions.
Adding another layer of history to this vehicle, its initial owner in 1964 was the esteemed Lancaster Funeral Home in Louisburg, NC. This hearse bears witness to decades of compassionate service, embodying the grace and poise associated with Groce Funeral Home.

I had no plans at all! From the first call to Dale Groce, letting him know of Jerry's passing, he was at Carepartners Solace in 20 mins. He was greeting everyone, and his compassionate nature was overflowing!! He said they would be there, no rush to plan, just to let him know when we were ready. That made the whole process for us to plan just open up. We met, planned as Dale's professionalism was evident from the start. He listened as we talked, taking notes, and asked us to tell him about Jerry. Dale Groce and his staff were Amazing!! They helped us turn a very sad situation into a wonderful celebration of Life. We are forever grateful for Groce Funeral Home. 10 isn't high enough!
