John Robert Sprinkle, 87, of Asheville, died Friday, September 25, 2009.
A native of Madison Co., Mr. Sprinkle was a son of the late A. Perry and Mary Bell Sprinkle. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Muse Sprinkle; and by his brothers, Cecil, Wilburn, Joe and Horace Sprinkle.
He was a graduate of Emma High School and worked at Southern Dairies before joining the U.S. Army in 1942. In 1945, he returned to work in sales at Dave Steel until he retired in 1990. He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church.
Mr. Sprinkle is survived by his wife, Mildred Bailey Sprinkle; daughter, Susan Diane Ward and husband Roger, of Pinehurst; step-daughters, Janice Cutshall and husband Rex, and Nancy McBrayer and husband Richard; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Alyssa Ward, and four step-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mr. Sprinkle will be at 6:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Tommy Bridges and Andy Tuttle officiating. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Green Hills Cemetery, with military honors rendered by the Buncombe County Veteran's Council.
His family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
