Owen O. Woody

Owen O. Woody, 69, of 322 Sugar Creek Road, Leicester, went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Mission-St. Josephs. Mr. Woody was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late B.E. and Narmie King Woody. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and I.P. Woody. He was a cattleman and tobacco farmer, a member of Jones Valley Baptist Church, and an active member of the Big Sandy Community Center. He is survived by his wife, Joy Payne Woody; one daughter, Dana Woody Gahagan and her husband T.J. of Leicester; one step-son, Richard Bernier and his wife Maria of Weaverville; one granddaughter (his pride and joy), Summer Gahagan; one sister, Ilar Prockiw of Chester Springs, PA; and two brothers, Ulysses R. Woody and D. Venson Woody of Leicester. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday at Jones Valley Baptist Church with the Revs. Ricky Townsend and Bill Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan Worley, Charlie Brown, Jason Woody, David Woody, T.J. Gahagan, Michael Woody, Richard Bernier, and Dallas Surrett. His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
