Janet Black Caldwell, 50, formerly of Leicester, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at her home in Raleigh.
Born in Buncombe County, she was a daughter of Carl E. and Patricia Prestwood Black of Leicester, and the mother of Matthew Keith Caldwell and wife Katie. She is also survived by her paternal grandmother, Lois Black, and maternal grandmother, Frances Prestwood; two grandchildren, Ethan and Kaitlyn; and her special friend, Trish Mary Anderson.
Private interment will be at Payne's Chapel Cemetery, Leicester.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.
Jan was a wonderful woman with a heart of gold. She will be truly missed by many ,she could be replaced by none. I will always hold my memories of her close to my heart. She helped me through alot of hard times, her kindness will never be forgotten.
Jan you may be gone from this earth, but you will never be forgotten. You will truly be missed.
Jan, you will truly be missed and every one loved you, you are one of a kind…when i think of you i smile because you had a very humorous spirit a smile comes to my face when i think of you so know that thats the impression that you leave behind. Gone but never forgotten… love u
I did not know Jan, but I am a chaplain to many women who do. I could tell from their overwhelming response to the news of her death that she was deeply loved by many. That kind of response can only mean that she had a kind heart and a giving spirit. Many were comforted yesterday by the knowledge that she will struggle no more. Know that many, many women are holding all of you up in prayer today. Peace be with you.

Dear family, I was so sorry to hear about Jan. We went through Leicester Elementary School together but I lost track of her after school. My family and I will keep you in our prayers.
Jan and I shared many long hours on the playground at Leicester Elementary. I think of those times often. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
