Larry O'Neil Plemmons, 71, of Asheville, died on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of Virginia Pace Plemmons and of the late Gordon Plemmons. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Plemmons.
Mr. Plemmons retired from the Asheville City Police Department, and was a member of Elk Mountain Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Plemmons is survived by his wife of 50 years Alma Thomas Plemmons; daughters, Sharon Plemmons and Stephanie P. Honeycutt; and grandchildren, Brittany O'Neil Cassida, and Seth Colby Honeycutt.
A funeral service for Mr. Plemmons will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Revs. John L. Honeycutt and Mike Woodard officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Dearest Plemmons Family, Words can not express the sincere sympathy I have at the loss of Larry. I can never thank you all enough for allowing me to be a part of his life. He was an outstanding man and I enjoyed his wisdom and wit. He became a father figure to me and for the knowledge I gained I am forever thankful. Larry thanks for letting me be your ‘Righthand Man’

Sorry to hear of passing of Larry i worked with him at the police dept when first started he was a kind and friendly person and helped me alot to learn the job.My thoughts and prayers are with the family

I will never forget that sunday when Mr. Plemmons made his way up at RBC and gave his testimony how he saw the light at the end and how he knew it wasnt quite his time to leave this world. He made an impact on me hearing his testimony. I know Stephanie, Johnny and Seth will miss him but I want you to know that Mr.Plemmons’ testimony that day has stuck with me on making sure each morning when I wake up I am very thankful for witnessess like Larry Plemmons and I strive harder to witness for God .Jerome and I are here if the family needs anything .Prayers for all of the family!
My condolences to your family. Larry worked with my late husband (Fred Hensley, Retired Chief) and remarked often of what a good officer he was, and had a great personality. So sorry for your loss.
Sorry to about Mr. Plemmons passing. The Plemmings were neighbors of ours in West Asheville. I also attending church with him briefly at Riverside Baptist. Prayers go out to his family during this difficult period…
My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I worked with Larry at Asheville Police Department. He was a good man and officer.

I worked with Larry a short time @ Miles BP, we had many laughs together, cause He was so friendly, Then, He still came by once in a while to see us. Seen Him @ Hess also, after He sold the winning Lottery ticket! SOOO, sorry for Your Loss. He will be MISSED. Very nice person, God has recieved another ANGEL.

Alma, I don’t know if you will remember me as it has been several years since we worked together when I was at Biltmore Mortgage. I have thought about you often and unfortunately did not learn of Larry’s death until this evening or I would have been there. I am so very sorry about Uncle Larry. Through the years we had some good times together. He was a very kind hearted man. Praying for each of you.

I just today got word from my sister Sandra Smith that Larry had passed.Larry and I grew up like brothers, till I moved from Asheville in 1965. I am so Sorry I havn’t tried to call him.
