Leona Summey Robinson, 86, of 23 Edwin Place, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late Dillon Franklin and Beedie Ann Smith Summey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Fred Robinson; sister Earlean Robinson; brother J.D. Summey, and granddaughter, Sonja Raynette Whitt Mrs. Robinson worked as a bookkeeper in the various businesses she and her husband operated in Asheville. Together they were known for their community involvement to benefit residents of Asheville's East End. She was also known for her work and contributions to assist developmentally disabled children. She worked with the Children's Welfare League and was a former Girl Scout Leader. In sum, she made a difference in the lives of many area citizens. Mrs. Robinson is survived by a daughter, Annette Hatley Roof and her husband, Larry; a son, Larry Robinson and his wife, Linda; six grandchildren, Lisa Quintero, Sean Robinson, Marne Crisp, Dee Roof, Shannon Roof, and Shawn Roof; five great-grandchildren; sisters Juanita Bowman and Loretta Griffin and husband, Frank; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, with Dr. In Yong Lee and Rev. Rolf Woodard officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 223 Hillside Street, Asheville, NC 28801, or to Asheville Family Church, 530 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

    We are so saddened by the loss of Leona. A golden era has passed. We loved her dearly. Our other mother is gone and we mourn. She was a wonderful beacon in our lives. What a treasure she was! We are blessed to have shared so many wonderful times together over these many, many years.     Let me begin by saying,’ I Love You.’ What will I do with out you? I miss you so much already. But I do understand it was time for the Lord to take you home. I will always treasure the love and happiness you gave me while you were here on earth. You brought me and my children many very happy days in our lives. No one could have ask for a better grandmother than you. You will always be in my heart and my thoughts, you were a beautiful lady inside and out. You will be missed by many, especially me.   7. I am saddened at the loss of Leona. She was such a sweet person. I enjoyed working with her grandaughter, Rene, in Sunday school for many years. I know she is Happy as she is with the Lord and her precious Rene. My Prayer is confort for the family at this time.

  12. Leona was such a wonderful person. She was beautiful inside and out. She was softspoken and elegant and a true lady. We will miss her very very much. She and my mom, Berlyn Cordell, shared a lot of laughs and good times. And late night phone calls when neither could sleep. And I know mother was there with Aunt Marie, Earlene, Raynette and the others who went ahead of Leona and was there to meet her when she arrived.
