James L. Covert Jr.

james covert jr.
James L. Covert, Jr., 52, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. Jim was a master craftsman who could meticulously coax an extraordinary work of art out of just about any type of wood, whether it was a native tree species or an exotic tropical variety. Jim loved being on the water in his kayak and could often be found cleaning debris from the French Broad River as well as the many other waterways his love of the outdoors called him to. Jim always left the water cleaner than he found it and those he met on his journey fuller for the experience. Possessing a kind and loving spirit, he was always quick to help others and enjoyed sharing the secrets of his trade. He was the son of the late James L. and Merry J. Covert of Syracuse and is survived by his sons James Covert, III and Michael Covert, as well as his grandson, four siblings, several aunts and uncles, and many cherished friends. According to Jim's wishes, he was cremated and his ashes will be scattered, followed by a private celebration of his life for immediate family and his closet friends.

Sorry to hear of your brothers passing. Please know that you and your family are in Jeanette and my thoughts and prayers.

  2. Jim was a good friend, quick to smile. He could do anything with wood, find a stick and make something useful out of it. I loved and will miss Jim.Every time I find the Big Dipper at night I’ll think of the camp fire, and say hey Jim. He was a good man.

  3. Jim and I went all the way back to 1975 when his parents moved to Chittenango, NY. We both played guitar and that made us blood brothers. We spent so much time doing so many things that it`s hard to list them all. We were always outdoors- cliff climbing near Chittenango Falls, riding our bikes on hot summer days- so much time we shared on this earth, always having great times no matter what we what we chose to do that day. To you Jim, I know you climbed the tallest cliff of them all- the ‘Stairway to Heaven’. Good bye my brother.
