Norma Randall Murphy, 85, of 42 Beaverbrook Road, Asheville, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at the Hospice Solace Center. Mrs. Murphy was born in Philadelphia, PA and was a daughter of the late Alexander Rubin, Sr. and Edna Randall Rubin. She was married for 59 years to Joseph Neville Murphy who died in 2000. She lived in Asheville from 1965 to 1995 when she moved to Florida, returning to Asheville last year. She served on the Boards of Directors of the Blue Ridge Mental Health Center, Planned Parenthood and the Asheville Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was also active with the Asheville Art Museum and the Asheville Symphony Guild and was a volunteer at the election poles. She was a member of the Asheville Country Club and of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. She was also a member of Overbrook Country Club in Philadelphia and the Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club in Palm City, FL. Surviving are two daughters, Jody Stevenson of Robbinsville and Judith Stolfo of Boston, MA; four grandchildren, Heidi Reiber, David Stolfo, Ashley Sronce, and Christopher Martin; one sister Anne Toebe of Philadelphia; and one brother Alexander Rubin, Jr. of Philadelphia. Private services will be held for the family.   1. The Murphys were quite possibly one of the smartest and most engaging couples we ever met. Generous and kind, there was no topic you could not cover or uncover with Norma. She was ahead of her time. A beautiful person inside and out. We are so sorry for the family’s loss for it is a big one.
