Robert Harley Ellis, 94, most recently of Carolina Village, Hendersonville, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the John F. Keever, Jr., Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.
Mr. Ellis was born in Sioux City, IA, and was a son of the late Harold and Pauline Weaver Ellis, and was also preceded in death by his first wife Alice McBride Ellis.
He served his country as a communications officer in the 9th Armored Division of the US Army in WWII and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and the capture of the Bridge at Remagen
Following the war he began his career in Human Resources working for Montgomery Ward, Webster-Chicago Corporation (Webcor), Tuttle & Kift, and P.R. Mallory and Co. He ended his career as Vice President of Human Resources for Duracell International.
He is survived by his wife, Olive "Jo" Ellis of Hendersonville; two sons, John W. Ellis of Asheville and Thomas R. Ellis of Jackson, Georgia, his Sister Marilyn Bury of Park Forest, IL and brother William Ellis of Park Ridge, IL
Upon retiring to Hendersonville in the late 1980's Mr. Ellis became active in many community organizations and served on the boards of Interfaith Assistance Ministries, Carolina Village, and the vestry of and his church St. James Episcopal Church
