David B. McKay, 78, of Asheville, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Indianapolis, IN, Dave was a son of the late C. David and Juanita Freeman McKay.
Dave retired in 1997 from Proffitt's Department Store in the Biltmore Square Mall as the store's manager. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving his country from 1956 to 1958, reaching the rank of Sergeant.
Dave is survived by his wife Betty McKay; sons, Jeff McKay and wife Liz, of Austin, TX, and Scott McKay and wife Lettie, of Detroit, MI; sister, Charlotte McKay and husband Jim; brothers, John McKay and his recently deceased wife Sharon, and Jim McKay and wife Margaret; grandchildren, Hannah, Jack, and Bella; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorials be made to CarePartners Hospice or CarePartners Home Health Services, P.O. 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Rd. is assisting the family .
Many fond memories of Barry. We were high school classmates & hung out together. Strange that just yesterday my wife asked if I had spoken with him recently. Sadly it was about a year ago. Our thoughts & prayers to his family. Don Jordan Webster Groves class of ’54.
Dear Betty, I was so sorry to read of Dave’s passing .He was such a sweet man and I enjoyed working with him at Proffitt’s. You and your family are in my prayers.
