John H. Pierce, Sr.

Newton, NJ ~ John H. Pierce, Sr., 87, of Sparta, NJ and Ormond Beach, FL died Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Newton Memorial Hospital Hospital in Newton, NJ. Born in White Plains, NY, Mr. Pierce has maintained a residence in Sparta, NJ for over twenty years and spent his winters in Ormond Beach, FL for over thirty years. He was a graduate of Duke University with a BS degree in engineering. He worked for ALCOA (Aluminum Company of America) for thirty-five years, retiring in 1978. An avid golfer, Mr. Pierce belonged to the Lake Mohawk Country Club and Lake Mohawk Golf Club. Survivors include his beloved wife, Mildred Rohrer Pierce; his son, John H. Pierce, Jr. of Birmingham, AL; his daughter, Suzanne Murphy of Honolulu, HI; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His family will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Goble Funeral Home, Sparta, NJ, prior to his funeral service. Interment will be Monday, August 16th at 1:00 PM at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, NJ 07860. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family locally.
