Alma Hall Simmons, 92, of Candler, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014, at Silverleaf Alzheimer's Care in Athens, Georgia. Alma was preceded in death by her parents Soloman Jay Hall and Zora Crane Hall. She is survived by her husband, James E. Simmons of the home; two sons, Jerry (Patty) and Eddy (Joyce) of Candler; two grandchildren, Breanne Simmons of Athens, GA and Jason Simmons (Melinda) of Candler; and two great-grandchildren, Blue and Highland Simmons of Candler. Alma was a graduate of Candler High School, and was a life-long member of Hominy Baptist Church. Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Mary Caldwell and Dr. Joe Yelton at Pisgah View Memorial Park in Candler at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2014. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. A special thanks to the staff of Silverleaf of Athens, and to Silverleaf Hospice for the love and care given to Alma over the past year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Alma to Silverleaf of Athens, PO Box 1110, Jefferson, GA 30549. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. in assisting the family.

  3. I am so sorry to hear about Alma recently passing. My Mother Janet Sue Rhodes-Larson always told of how special Ma, Pa and your family was to her. I suppose now they are all having a wonderful celebration together and are very happy. It is AMAZING what a wonderful long life she had. God Bless you during your sorrow your family will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I remember visiting with my mom and she would always want to see your family and get caught up when we came from Florida.

  5. Jerry & Eddie I feel as if I have known your mother all of my life. She was such a special lady and we all loved her. My mother always enjoyed being with her when they worked together when we were in elementary school at Candler. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
