Carl David Rhodin
Asheville, NC – Carl David Rhodin (David), of Asheville, passed away on October 15th at Mission Hospital following a short illness.
He was born on October 13, 1936 in Newport, Rhode Island the youngest and the last surviving child of the late John and Barbara Rhodin. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Person and Nancy McFarlane as well as two brothers, Phillip and Arthur Rhodin.
After graduating from Rogers High School in 1954, he attended the University of Michigan before joining the Navy. It was during this period he met the love of his life, Mary . A first date on Valentines Day was the beginning of a courtship that lasted more than 55 years.
Upon leaving the Navy, he joined the United State Border Patrol where he began his career in law enforcement. His four decades of service took him to locations across the United States and Canada. He retired in 1998 as the Port Director for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service in Charleston, South Carolina.
The majority of his retirement was spent in Asheville, where he enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and taking care of his dogs.
David is survived by his wife, Mary Peppers Rhodin; three sons, Michael Rhodin and his wife, Ingrid Klove, of Redding Ct., John Rhodin and his wife, Karen, of Asheville and Patrick Rhodin and his wife, Emily, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl; brothers and sisters-in-law L.B. Cook of Lyerly, GA, Andrew and Bonnie Montgomery of Summerville, GA, Bob and Joyce Peppers of Cedartown, GA, Pete and Sara Denson of Summerville, GA, Sam and Marilyn Peppers of Lyerly, GA, Steve and Sandra Peppers of Summerville, GA, Bessie Rhodin of North Kingstown, RI; seven grandchildren, Olivia, Kristen, Alana, Jason, Peter, Ella and Noah as well as many nieces and nephews.
