Charles Ray Jackson of Candler, NC passed peacefully from this world on March 11, 2015 at the John Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC.

The amazing love and laughter filled life that "Papaw" leaves behind prepares us for the intense and overwhelming joy that awaits us in heaven. Charles Ray Jackson was born to the late Saxton and Mary McFee Jackson on August 7, 1932 in Candler, NC, and was also preceded in death by his sister Vera Mae DeHart. Many facets and qualities paint the portrait of a full life and the Master himself strokes Charlie's legacy. He was a man of courage serving his country in the U. S. Navy in the Korean Conflict as a Hospital Corpsman of the 1st Marine Division. He retired from CP&L as a Western area load dispatcher in 1988.
He was a man with a love of music, singing with the gospel group The Humble Hearts and sharing God's message through song. He was a member at Pole Creek Baptist Church where he was faithful member of the choir as well as the former Sunday School Director and a Deacon.
Perhaps most of all, he was a man dedicated to his family. He is survived by his lifelong sweetheart of 63 years, Barbara Metcalf Jackson, his three children, Susan Buchanan (David), Anne Lingelbach (Keith) and Jeffery Jackson (Cindy). His six grandchildren, Amanda, Jared, Brittany, Heather, Charlie and Andrew and three great-grandchildren Aaliyah, Chloe and Elizabeth. The joys of Sunday lunch with "Papaw" at the head of the table asking us to bow our heads to pray illustrates what is important in this life and the inheritance of love and faith that he leaves behind. He is now dining at the table of his beloved Savior today, and we know he has a seat saved for each one of us until we are reunited with him again in eternity.
Visitation will be held at Pole Creek Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015, followed by the service at 12:00 p.m. The Rev. Dennis Thurman and Rev. Jackie Collins will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by the North Carolina Honor Guard.
A special thanks to Dr. John Langlois, Nan Needs, Victoria Frierson, Jay Brown, Katie Brockett, Gretchen Whitt and to all the other dedicated personnel at CarePartners Hospice.

We are heart broken for the loss of a wonderful friend and and a man with a passion of love for his Lord and family,lots of qualities about Charlie , to mention a few he was always friendly to everyone and many a young person he touch with his life ,was a very humble Man ,was one of the best bass singers and really loved to sing ,he will always be remembered as a a warm hearted friend,Robert and I loved him very much along with his dear wife and family. We send our deepest sympathy to Barbara and the family.

I love you all! My love and prayers are with you! I have many many wonderful memories of being at your house on Sunday’s, going to get ice cream and being teased by a very special man! Charlie has a special place in my heart and I’m thankful I’ll get to see him again one day!
We have been blessed to be neighbors of Charlie and Barbara Jackson for many years. We will remember Mr. Jackson as a kind and gentle man who loved the Lord and who enjoyed working outside in his yard. He was one of the first persons we met when we moved to Candler and when our car broke down not long after moving here Mr. Jackson rescued us and our two young daughters. We are saddened by your loss and are praying for your family.

Jay and I thought the world of Charlie, and are so sorry for your loss. It is wonderful knowledge to know that we will see and celebrate our Lord with Charlie one day in Heaven. We know he is singing with Heaven’s choir today and is totally healed of earth’s sicknesses and burdens. May God give each of you the comfort that comes only from Him.
My prayers are with you all as you gather to remember one so loved and one who loved you so. What a joyous day when you meet again, where there will be no more pain or sorrow and every tear will be wiped away.

It is no secret – Charlie was a life long hero of mine. I can not recall any point in my life – even as a small child – that I did not treasure Charlie as a true hero. Indeed – our loss is Heaven’s gain. To the family – please know that our Family loves you and will continue to pray for you during this time.

Charlie was a great man. James and I loved him and Barbara so much. Such dedication to the church and his family. We need more Christian examples like this great man. James loved his bass voice. No other like it. I know he’s singing in heaven. May the love of friends give you comfort-may the love of God give you peace. James and Phyllis Morton.
Charlie Jackson was one of the first folks I got to know when I came to Pole Creek Baptist. I started teaching the third grade class and he was Sunday School Director. I was so thankful to have his smile and support for anything I needed, whether a crayon or just a stern look to a bunch of hyper little boys, he was always there. My kids always loved to hear Mr. Charlie sing and thought it was so cool when his big deep voice would come through the microphone. I as well miss those days when he and the others would sing about Heaven. I know he will be there at the gates waiting with that big smile ‘When we all get to Heaven’. So Thankful he was one of my influences at Pole Creek. Have missed him terribly in the last few years. My prayers and love to all the family…He will be missed, but Im so happy he will be there to greet me one day!

Our family has known Charles and Barbara all my life. Daddy and mama (Joe and Marie Brown) thought the world of him. He will be greatly missed but in our hearts we know where he is today. Praying for Barbara and the family. There will never be another gentle soul like him.
We got to know Mr. Jackson at Pole Creek as a faithful Sunday School Director, fellow choir member (loved his voice), and a good neighbor. He truly was an example of a man who loved his family.
