Herbert James "Jim" McLaughlin, 84, of Asheville, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Laurels of Summit Ridge.
Born in Cranston, RI to the late Thomas and Marie Donnelly McLaughlin, he was a retired attorney and a Professor at Bryant University, Smithfield, RI. Jim was a member of the American Bar Association
of Rhode Island and was a veteran of the US Navy Reserve.
Surviving are his wife, Renelle L'Huillier McLaughlin; two sons, Steven McLaughlin of Providence, RI and Devin McLaughlin of Exeter, RI; four daughters, Nancy Donaldson of Tuson, AZ, Susan Rio of Asheville, Sharon McLaughlin of Providence, RI and Erin Keachof Exeter, RI; ten grandchildren; three step-sons, Christoper Harwood of Providence, RI, Timothy Harwood of Washington, DC, and Jonathan Harwood of Augusta, GA.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting
the family.
Renelle and all of the family….We were saddened to read of the death of
good friend ‘Herb/Jim’. We have been missing him, since we lost touch a few years ago. We always enjoyed his sense of humor and remember his generosity
in offering to lend his brand new car to us when we visited in Asheville.
