Sylvia White Fisher

Resided in:
Candler, NC
Sylvia White Fisher, 91, of Candler, died on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at the Hospice of Charleston Hospice Center.
A native of Clam Falls, WI, Mrs. Fisher was a daughter of the late George Henry White and Geraldine Fogle White. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Joseph Fisher, Sr.; sisters, Dorothy and Marion; and brothers Lindsey, Homer, Jason and Maurice.
Mrs. Fisher attended college for two years at Northland College, Ashland, WI, with a music scholarship but could not continue when WWII began. She met Francis at Hercules Powder Co., a munitions factory in Baribou, WI, where they both worked during the war. They were married on June 2, 1945, and moved to Candler in 1951. Sylvia was an amazing wife, mother and community leader. It seemed like she did everything: cooked delicious food, expanding her repertoire over the years, sewed clothes for the family, canned vegetables, and made wine from the fruits growing on their property. She wrote and published Let's Make Country Wine, to share with others her joy of wine-making. She loved hosting dinners, lunches and wine-tastings. Sylvia was also involved in the community in many ways over the years: she started and directed her church choir, was President of the local PTA, President of the Asheville Art Museum Board of Directors, and President of the Hominy Valley Recreation Park during the planning phase. Sylvia also volunteered at the Folk Art Center and most recently, at the North Carolina Arboretum.
Mrs. Fisher is survived by her daughter, Mary Sue Fisher of Oakland, CA; three sons, F. Joseph Fisher, Jr. (Fran) of Charleston, SC, David G. Fisher (Mabel) of Fairfield, IA, and Daniel P. Fisher (Wendy) of Andover, VT; three grandchildren, Laura F. Altman (Chris), Kristin C. Shoger (Andrew), and Brian J. Fisher (Jessica); and seven great-grandchildren, John, Joseph, Luke, and Sadie Shoger, Tyler and Carter Altman, and Annie Fisher. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Bobbie Nantz and Grace W. White.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston Hospice Center, 676 Wando Park Blvd, Charleston, SC 29464 or the North Carolina Arboretum, 100 Frederick Law Olmsted Way, Asheville, NC 28806.
I am very sorry for your loss. Jesus said; ‘Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out,…’ (John 5:28-29) My prayer is that Jesus’ promise will comfort you during this time.
To the family of Ms. Sylvia Fisher please accept my sincere
condolence. We all face the loss of a
dear loved one. At times like this I like to turn to the bible for
comfort. The scripture at 2 Cor. 1:2,3
calls Jehovah the God of all comfort.
May his love surround you at this time.
I look forward to the fulfillment of Isaiah 33:24 which tells us that a
time is coming when no one will say I am sick.
Also, Rev. 21:3, 4 when death will be no more. It is my wish that these scriptures provide
you with comfort. For more encouraging
words please visit jw.org which will also provide ways to cope with grief. Again, I am sorry for your loss.
I am sorry to hear of Mrs Fisher’s passing. It sounds like she had an amazing life.
I had no idea. Many, many happy memories of all of you.
