Donald "Speedy" O'Neil Wilson, 66, of Asheville, died Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Mission Hospital.
A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late William and Wilma Lou Gossett Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He was a member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Kay Laws Wilson; daughter, Donessa Wilson; step-daughter, Donna Lunsford and husband Richard; step-son, Don Long; grandchildren, Devin, Donovan, and DeVante Durant; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; sisters, JoAnn Roberts and husband Ted, Cindy Fisher and husband Bryan; and brother Bill Wilson and wife Nancy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charlie Sams and the Rev. Dean Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Prayers and loving thoughts for Speedy’s family and friends….He was so much to so many and all will miss him, his smile , his sense of humor and his tremendous loving heart. He touched many lives and will forever be in our memories. Though this is a sad day just think of that glorious reunion and have hope in tomorrow. Good bye my friend. we shall never forget you!

We were deeply saddened when we heard the news of Speedy’s death. We are sending you our sincerest condolences and know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. It was always a pleasure seeing him at our shop. He will be greatly missed, we valued his friendship.
I am heart broken to hear of Speedy’s passing. My deepest sympathy to his wife and family. He was a sweet person and always had a smile on his face when I would see him. I loved him like a brother and will always remember him. Like the song says, ‘Go Rest High On the Mountain,’until we meet again………
My greatest sympathy for Don’s family & loved ones! Speedy was an awesome guy & was very much loved. He has been in my prayers for so very long & now my prayers are for all that loved him. I pray you find peace in knowing his suffering his no longer for he is now with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. We can all see him again one day if you accept the precious gift of salvation through Christ.
