David Ernest Reed, Sr.

David Reed Sr. (age 69) died Tuesday June 9, 2015 in Baptist Hospital, Jacksonville, FL following a short illness. He was the son of the late Ivey B. Reed, Jr., and Edith Drake Reed. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Herren Reed, sister Dianna Reed, son David Ernest Reed, Jr. (wife Jamie), daughter Denise Reed, son Daniel Reed (wife Lori); grandchildren Jesika Shake, James Reed, Megan Reed, Daniel Reed, Jr., and David Ernest Reed III; and stepfather Johnnie Perkins. David was born in Ft Myers FL but spent most of his life in Buncombe County. He and Margaret spent several years living in both NC and FL, but in 2013 moved permanently to FL. David was a longtime member of the Skyland Fire Department where he was a volunteer fireman, EMT, and Mountain Rescue instructor. He coached youth league football for many years and was a member of Tweeds Chapel Methodist Church. In 2002 he retired from BASF (formerly American Enka) where he had worked for 33 years. He was a member of the first graduating class of TC Roberson High School and attended AB Tech where he studied drafting and design. David was a kind and generous man. Family and friends will miss his ready wit and wonderful sense of humor. A graveside service will be held at Tweeds Chapel Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., Saturday June 27. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to the charity of your choice.

  3. I believe he was one of my youth football coaches in the 70\’s. A great man and coach. He always brought out the best in us. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

  4. David was a pleasure to work with and enjoyed seeing him everyday at BASF. Had many a laugh with him as he always had something to say that would make you laugh and brighten your day. So sorry to hear of David\’s passing and for your loss. Will always cherish the good times we had in the Engineering Department. He was a good man and friend.
