Velma Ariail Holcombe, 94, of Asheville, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015, at the WNC Baptist Home. A native of Commerce, GA, Mrs. Holcombe was a daughter of the late Dallas Vincent and Minnie Tanner Ariail. She was also preceded in death by her husband Carter William Holcombe; and siblings, Odessa Woodard, Christine Spangler, Betty Lyles, Peggy Bridges, and Lawrence Ariail. Mrs. Holcombe was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Electa Chapter #228 for over 60 years. She was also a longtime member of Liberty Baptist Church. Mrs. Holcombe is survived by her daughter, Betty Jean Arnott and husband Mike; step-son, Ronald "Bill" Holcombe; grandchildren, Katherine Arnott Argo and husband Dr. Joshua Argo, and Bonnie Arnott Owen and husband Douglas, and Richard, Cody and Annie Holcombe; great-grandchildren, Carter, Daniel, and Amelia Argo, Clara and James Owen, Arianna Lott, and Josiah Holcombe; and many other close family, friends and neighbors. A funeral service for Mrs. Holcombe will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with WNC Baptist Home Chaplain Billy Honeycutt officiating. Interment with Order of Eastern Star rites will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Holcombe's family would like to thank the entire staff of the Rickman Nursing Care Center, including the Activities Staff, for their outstanding skill & compassion.
