Alfred "Al" Moser Pfaff, 89, passed away at his home at the Givens Estates, Asheville, on February 14, 2016.
Al was born on September 7, 1926 in Forsythe County, NC to the late Herbert F. Pfaff, Sr. and Flora Mae Moser Pfaff. He was also preceded in death by a brother, H.F. Pfaff, Jr., and a sister, Helen Pfaff Merritt.
Al graduated from North Carolina State University and embarked on a 35 year career at IBM. There he developed one of the computer systems used in the Gemini Space Project.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Zorn, a daughter, Donna Zorn and partner Susan Isley of Asheville, a son, Kurt Zorn and wife Lisa of Bloomington, IN, two nieces, Judy Albert and husband Eddie of Tobaccoville, NC, and Kathy Long and husband Tommy of Bethania, NC, and a nephew, Herbert C, Pfaff of New York City.
A memorial service will be held in the Pulliam Chapel, Givens Estates, on Saturday, February 20, 2016, 10:30 AM. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Givens Estates Resident Assistance Fund, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
According to his wishes, Mr. Pfaff's body was donated to the Medical Education and Research Institute of Memphis TN for the training of physicians and surgeons.
Johnnie, I am so sorry for your loss of Al. You two had such a beautiful – love story -; and, I know you will miss him deeply. My love, hugs and prayers are with you……..
