Elizabeth "Lib" Fortune, 93, a long-time resident of Asheville, passed away Friday evening, July 1, at the Hospice Solace Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Lib was born in Georgia on September 1, 1922, to her parents Locke and Annie Hutchison. Lib enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family and friends. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in West Asheville.
Lib is survived by a family who loved her very much: daughter Sally Colemon and her husband Larry, granddaughter Lori Colemon Brown and her husband Chris, great granddaughters Sally Beth and Katie Brown, all of Asheville, several nieces and nephews, and many friends, who cherish many happy memories of time spent with "Nanny" or "Aunt Lib", including a trip to Wild Dunes on her 90th birthday. She was preceded in death by her three siblings, Eva Mae Case, Loring Hutchison, and Bowen McTaggart.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the CNAs and nursing staff at the Rickman Nursing Center and Solace Center who loved Lib like their own and provided great care to her and her family.
The graveside celebration of her life will be Tuesday, July 12, at 10:00 a.m., at Pisgah View Cemetery, with Reverend Ron Brown officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Care Partners Hospice Solace Center.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
Sally, Larry and Family, Our sincere condolences to you for your loss of this precious lady. May God’s love and tender mercy comfort you in the days ahead. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Another saint has gone on to be with our Lord! What a blessed thought. She will be missed here at Asheville Terrace Apartments. She used to walk the hallway several times a day. I’m sending my condolences.
A beautiful and gracious lady has passed into her Lord’s arms now. What a genuine and caring lady to all her family and friends. She will certainly remain in our hearts.
