Glenn Thomas Anderson

glenn anderson
Glenn Thomas Anderson, of Arden, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday morning, July 11, 2016, at Mission Hospital. Glenn was the son of the late Glenn and Mildred Anderson of Youngstown, OH. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jackie Anderson; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Heather Anderson of Rock Hill, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Kelley Anderson of Columbia, SC; his sister Beth Egan of Pittsburg, PA; and six grandchildren: Evan, McCabe, Arden, Annabel, Watts, and Sandra Grace. The memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, July 14th, with visitation at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, 72 Long Shoals Rd, Arden, NC, 28704. Donations may be made to Children First Communities in Schools of Buncombe County: www.childrenfirstcisbc.org. Glenn grew up and got married in Youngstown, OH. After marriage, he and his wife migrated to Asheville, NC, where he raised his family. He had a long career at Asheville-BuncombeTechnical Community College as the Director of Financial Aid. While that paid the bills, what he was most known for is his caring heart for the world. He loved his family, adored his bride, cherished his boys, grew an even larger heart for his daughters-in-law, and became the best grandpa his six grandchildren could ever imagine. In the community, he was known as "coach". For years, he invested in coaching baseball in South Asheville and South Buncombe programs. Even in his retirement, grown men would approach him and talk of his time investing in their lives as young ballplayers. Glenn had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. Anyone who met him would soon find where his true heart rested. Whether it be kids on teams he coached, nurses who cared for him in the hospital, neighbors who needed him, his boys asking advice, his church looking for wisdom — he faithfully pointed them all to Jesus Christ. Glenn knew his time here was short and that knowing the God of the Bible is of utmost importance. Glenn will be missed. His time with us was full and vibrant yet, seemingly, too short. He leaves this world a brighter place through the legacy of the life he lived. What dimness we experience in his loss is overpowered by the witness of his love, kindness, and compassion to those he cared for and nurtured through the years, even those he had just met. He never met a stranger and always had a story to tell. Lord, you brought home a chatty one, and, oh, how dearly he longed to be in your presence. We know he belongs to you and rejoice in knowing, how "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" (Psalm 116:15). To him we know you were proud to say, "'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master'" (Matthew 25:21 ESV).

  2. Brad and Kelley, and other family members: I am so sorry for your loss. But, what an awesome testimony of a life well lived! It’s obvious that he touched so many lives. I know the Lord will comfort you during this time.

  3. Dear Jackie and family,
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are cousins who haven’t seen each other in many years but enjoyed wonderful times together as kids. Uncle Glenn and Aunt Mildred were always warm and welcoming.
I pray that God will comfort and keep you during this sad time and that He will bring to your minds many loving memories of Tom.
    Much love,
    Debbie Anderson Hooks

  4. Jackie and family: Please accept my heartfelt sympathy upon the death of Glenn. He was a fine man who did great work here at A-B Tech, helping thousands of students to better lives through education which might not otherwise have been available to them. Jan and I send our sincere sympathy to you because of your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

  5. The Anderson family is in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Glenn was an excellent man and I enjoyed working with him at A-B Tech.

  6. I know you wish Heaven wasn’t so far away so that you could visit. It’s a blessing to read the obituary of some one who loved the Lord and their family also loves the Lord and can write such an inspiring piece.

  7. Blessings and love to all of Glenn’s family. Our prayer warrior has gone to be with Mary Louise in our Father’s house! Hallelujah!

  8. Glenn was the most outstanding person i have ever met. He is the person we should all strive to be. He will be missed. I am so sorry for Jackie, Matthew, Brad and Beth. He will be missed and cherished forever.

  9. I was a neighbor buddy of Glenn back in the 1950’s. He was one heck of an athlete. I did not know of his serious faith in God until much later in life. I don’t know when that happened, but it most definitely did. Glenn’s messags in the last few years had God and Christianity written all over them. He truly must be in Heaven now, pain-free and waiting for family and friends to join him one day.

  10. Jackie and family, please accept my sincere sympathy. When I moved to Flat Rock 18 years ago, he became such a good friend. We had the connection of both having careers in college administration. And, we found ourselves on same committees at Pinecrest. He was a true gentleman and an outstanding Christian. I admired him and his genuine faith.

  11. Jackie you and your family are in our prayers always and forever you guys came into our lives and what an amazing guy Glenn was . We will miss him tremendously . He was truly Cameron’s #1 fan .

  12. What a loss of light in the world. Thinking of Jackie & Sons and praying for you. Glenn was my first boss @ AB Tech and taught me so much he lead by example stressing goodness & caring for ALL even when he did not agree with someone or something. I am so Glad to have known him and will be thinking of his family & friends (of which there are many) in the coming days/weeks/months.

  13. Dear Jackie and family,
Please accept our condolences on the death of Tom. We remember him very fondly. This tribute to his life is so very beautiful and inspiring to anyone who reads it. May God bless your entire family.
    Dan & Patty Colucci

  14. I am sad to hear of Glenn’s passing. Whenever I would see him, he always had a smile on his face and always had time to talk. Glenn was a great neighbor and a wonderful community member. I know he will be missed terribly. May he rest in peace in the presence of his Lord!

  15. Fond memories of Glenn. Inl 1970 he helped me conduct an introductory training class for Western North Carolina colleges on a new federal financial aid program called Basic Grants that today is called Pell Grants. Glenn was active and provided leadership for the North Carolina Association of Financial Aid Administrators. God bless Glenn and his family.

  16. Glenn’s loving family: Jackie I just learned of Mr. Anderson’s death and was both shocked and sadden. As you know, I saw him last year and he spoke of the wonderful times you guys had on the many cruises you had taken. To me, he had not changed although I had not see him for many years since our time together at AB Tech. A smile still brightened his face and I could sense the joy and happiness he had on the inside. He loved you and he loved his sons. God keep you all during this time of loss and know that one day all tears and sorrow will be gone as God welcomes us into His kingdom to live with Him forever.
