Dakota Owenby

September 15, 1995 ~ September 20, 2016
Resided in:
Fairview, NC
William "Dakota" Owenby, 21, of Fairview, North Carolina peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, September 20, 2016 at 5:10 am at Mission Hospital due to brain injuries.
Dakota has played football for A.C. Reynolds since he was 7 years old and has made many lifelong friends along the way. Dakota had many hobbies but they all centered around being with his family and friends. He would light up any room that he walked into, and he would put a smile on anyone's face. Dakota will be very deeply missed and his legacy will go on forever.
Dakota was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather (William Parham) and is survived by: mother and father (Chris and Shelly Owenby), siblings (Christopher Metcalf, Kayla, Christy, and Karrie Owenby), grandparents (Carroll and Patricia Owenby, Dave and Frances Penland), nephews (Frankie Lipe and Steel Toney), aunts and uncles (Richard and Lisa Parham, Amy and Daniel Duveneck, Brian and Misty Owenby, Christy Cox, Amy and Neil Perkins), cousins (Kaitlyn Owenby, Samantha and Joshua Parham, Olivia Duveneck, Amber Shuler and Kinley Perkins), as well as the BO's, 628, #DakotaStrong #12
Services will be held Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 2 pm at A.C. Reynolds High School. The service will be held in the Fine Arts Auditorium followed by a tailgate and potluck visitation. The family invites everyone to bring a dish and share their stories about our beloved Dakota. If Dakota had it his way, everyone would be wearing Pittsburgh Steelers and Reynolds colors, so that is what the family invites you to do. No need for dressing up, Dakota never liked it anyway.
Donations can be made through Dakota's Go Fund Me page, #DakotaStrong, at https://www.gofundme.com/2pwy5twb, and food and condolences can be sent to the Owenby home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the AC Reynolds Football Scholarship Fund, which will be set up in Dakota's name – please contact Chris St. Onge with the AC Reynolds Booster Club for more information.
My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you. Trust in God’s strength to see you through.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Dakota. We pray that God will provide the comfort and the peace that only he can supply to each and every one.
I never personally met Dakota, but I can see what a great friend he was to my daughter Kelsey. The kind of person that has been described to me is so few and far between these days. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people who love Dakota.
Our thoughts and prayers are with this family of Dakota. There are nothing but good things I can say about Dakota. He was always there to hold a door, smile a smile, or give a kind word. He always made one feel appreciated. He will be missed.
Our thought and prayers go out to Dakota’s family and friends. May he fly high with all the other angels God has called home.

I am so sorry for your loss. I wanted to leave your family a comforting scripture during this time. Revelation 21:4- ‘And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will t
mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.’
It was really hard going through all that even since he’s so close to me being his cousin and only me being 9 at that time
