Carl Louis “Louie” Harrell, 61, of Asheville, died Saturday, December 18th, 2004, at his residence after a three year battle with cancer.
He is the son of Margaret (Peggy) Harrell and of the late Carl Harrell. Also preceding him, a son, Michael Louis Harrell, who died August 8th, 2001.
Mr. Harrell is survived by his mother, Margaret (Peggy) Harrell of Asheville; his wife of 40 years, Shirley Payne Harrell; two daughters, Teresa McCarthy and her husband, Scott, of Arden and Cherie Ledford and her husband, Jeff, of Fletcher. His pride and joy were his three grandchildren Katie Harrell of Fairview (daughter of Michael) and Jacob and Alex McCarthy. Also surviving is his sister, Jane Tolley of Arden; two brothers, David Harrell of Asheville and Charles Harrell and his wife, Anna, of Peoria, Arizona; his mother-in-law, Mildred Payne of Fairview and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Harrell was a 1961 graduate of Valley Springs and a graduate of A.B. Tech. He was an electrician, member of Trinity of Fairview, I.B.E.W. Local #238 for 37 years, Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446, Scottish Rite and Oasis Temple.
Carl was a caring person, always willing to help, with a good sense of humor. Teresa and Cherie were Daddy’s girls and Michael was his fishing and hunting buddy.
To all our family and friends, we thank you for all the love and support given to us in the past 3½ years. We thank God every day for giving us strength, He has been with us all the way.
A special thanks to Dr. Stephen Seal, Dr. Eric Kuehn, Dr. Don Jackson, Dr. Stephen Rerych, Dr. Robert Pozner and their staffs. The staff on 10th floor at Mission-St. Joseph’s, where he got #1 care and Mountain Area Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Reverend Steve Harris. Masonic rites by the Biltmore Masonic Lodge will be held in the chapel following the service. Interment will follow in Tweed’s Chapel Cemetery.
Carl’s family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road.
