Broughton Wallin, 90, of Candler, died peacefully on Tuesday evening, March 28, 2017.
He was born in Madison Co. to the late Flora Wallin. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Wallin, and brothers, Ernest and Delano Norton.
Broughton is survived by his loving wife, Joretta C. Wallin, with whom he celebrated 22 years of marriage on March 18th. He is also survived by four sons and three daughters: Wayne, of Seattle, WA, Warren, of Tempe, AZ, Wanda, of Asheville; Debra Luther, Dianne Workman (Dan), Daniel Hinson (Roxie), and David Hinson; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wallin served in the United States Air Force for 26 years and 26 days, retiring on January 1, 1972 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was stationed in the United States as well as many other places around the world. After retirement, he worked at the American Enka Plant in security.
He was a bowler enthusiast and bowled in many leagues over the years carrying a 200+ average. That is where he met his wife, Joretta.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his caring heart, his sense of humor, his cheerful smile and for never complaining about anything!
Mr. Wallin's family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, Candler, where Mr. Wallin was a member, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Michael Kurtz will be officiating in the celebration of Broughton's life. Interment will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Woodfin.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Davita Dialysis, who became his extended family for nearly six years. They also extend their deepest gratitude to Hospice and to the Pisgah Manor Nursing Home where he and his family glimpsed a taste of heaven by the care Mr. Wallin received. Our sincere appreciation for your part in loving him and keeping him comfortable during his final days.
