He served as an instructor for instrument navigation and earned the rank of Staff Sgt. After three more years in the service, he enrolled at the University of Maine and graduated from there in 1954. He moved to the West Coast and became a forester for the US Forest Service, a position which he held for 10 years. At that time, he made the decision to become an insurance agent with State Farm Insurance, running a successful agency for many years. Warren and his family relocated to Vermont to start another State Farm Agency in 1973, which after 30 years he retired. Warren married Nancy Stone in 1987 and they moved to Asheville to retire.
