Larry Ralph Ball, 80, died Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Mission Hospital.
A native of Statesville, Mr. Ball was a son of the late Ralph L. and Flossie Whisnant Ball and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Kelley Langford and a sister, Joyce Ann Neely. He was a Navy veteran, and had served in Desert Shield. He worked as a welder and pipefitter for American Enka (BASF) for 42 years.
He was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church where he was a member of the Fishers of Men SS Class and was a former Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Poindexter Ball; sons, Troy Stuart Ball, Kevin Scott Ball (Stephanie) and Mark Anders (Betsy); sister, Gail Thompson; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Tony Hooper and Dr. Darren Browning officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Youth Dept. of West Asheville Baptist Church, 926 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
So sorry for your loss. Praying for the family in the time of sadness I know how hard it is to lose a loved one it’s never ever easy but at least they are in a much better place than we are.

The boys in school together, scouts, Outdoor Resorts , Alan buying your house. We have known each other a long time. If there is anything we can do for ;you, please let me know. I knew Larry in the Seabees. He was a skilled, trustworthy and dependable Seabee. He always had a smile and lived a Chriistian live for all to see. i live in Burnsville. I hope to make it to the visitation. If I don’t may you have God Speed and peace. CM1 Steve Souther retired.
