James "Jim" Webb

The Legendary James Leslie Morgan “Jim” Webb, 66, of Asheville, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Mission Hospital, St. Joseph Campus. Born in Elkins, WV, he was the son of the late Nelson Eugene Webb and Geraldine Ruth (Phares) Scott. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Webb, and a sister, Jean Ann Robinson. Jim was the Building Maintenance Foreman for the Biltmore Corp. Headquarters for 12 years until his retirement. He was a veteran of the US Navy, and achieved the level of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. Jim had a vivid imagination and could tell some amazing stories, whether true or not. He had a love of trains, especially steam engines, military history, and bluegrass music. He is described by his children as the best father and friend anyone could ask for. Jim is survived by a son, Jamie Webb of Asheville; 3 daughters: Leslie Webb Baker (Joshua) of The Woodlands, TX; Liz Webb of Houston, TX; and Alana Barnes (Adam) of Talking Rock, GA; 6 grandchildren: Marley Bickley, Grayson and Maryanne Mattingly, Phares and Brody Baker, and A.J. Barnes; and one sister, Jennifer Hicks of NC. It was Jim’s wish that no services be held. Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to Asheville Humane Society, 14 Forever Friend Lane, Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is serving the family.
