We extend our love and sympathy to the family of Gerry Koontz. She was a very special lady and a faithful member of West Asheville Baptist Church while we were serving there. Gerry always navigated life from the ‘bright side.’ Her words of encouragement and gratitude were a blessing. That wide smile was a constant and wonderful greeting for us. We know you will miss Gerry being here, but we will see her again. Hallelujah!
Dr. and Mrs. James H. Johnson,
Pastor Emeritus, WABC
Dear Family, The greatest comfort we could have is the knowledge from God’s Word that death does not have the final say, Jesus does. May the promise of the Resurrection bring you peace, comfort, and victorious hope. Jesus said, ‘I am the Resurrection and the life, He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die.’ John 11:25-26 Mrs. Koontz touched and enriched my life. She was my Sunday School teacher in the 6th grade at West Asheville Baptist Church. Her wonderful smile, laughter, and sweet spirit touched us all. She brought joy to all those who knew her and her face lit up the room with her radiant smile. She was a testimony for her Lord, Jesus Christ.
Gerry was a wonderful lady. It was a blessing to have known her.
Oh how I remember & loved Gerry! Marty & all, I’m so sorry for your loss! You’re all in my prayers! God Bless!
Prayed for comfort and peace for all the family. Prayed in gratitude for Gerry and what she meant to my family during our time living in Reems Creek and after. Such a dear lady, friend.
Our Aunt Gerry was a fun aunt! Getting to go to the Koontz family home was such a treat and so much fun; there we were free to run, laugh, eat good food, and get to know Gerry, Elmer, and our cousins. Her warmth, humor, and patience were the hallmarks of her hospitality to us. I know that we were a little stiff, a little city, and a little inhibited-Gerry set us free for those hours we spent with her (and if we were lucky those times we got to double up and spend the night with all the cousins). Though we have always lived miles apart, I think that she imparted parts of herself to me-her love of literature and writing, and her quest to discover family roots, because it is there that we find the best stories, the ones that are our own. Blessings and joy to all of you:Karen, David, Dan, Marty and Eric.
with love and thankfulness,
Betsy
