William Greyson Ashley, 27, of Asheville, died on Friday, May 18, 2018. Greyson was born in Watauga Co., NC on July 7, 1990, to William Robert “Bobby” and Melissa Kemp Ashley. He was preceded in death by his mother, Melissa Kemp Coughlan on April 4, 2016. He enjoyed going to music festivals, listening and playing all kinds of music. He enjoyed hiking and cooking. Education was important to Greyson, he had just completed the spring semester at the University of North Carolina, Asheville where he was honored by being placed on the Dean’s List. Crossword puzzles were one of the many ways he would challenge his mind. Greyson could best be described as a free spirit who loved life to its fullest. Left to cherish his memory are his father and step-mother, Bobby and Lisa Ashley, of Jefferson; his grandmother, Janet Ashley, of Laurel Springs; step-brother, Riley Edmondson; step-sister, Lauren Edmondson; girlfriend, Sara Castillo, of Asheville; and many friends, several aunts, uncles and cousins. A Gathering of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Groce Funeral Home, 1401 Patton Avenue in Asheville. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jim Francis will officiate. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends following the graveside service at the home of Bobby and Lisa Ashley, 281 West Street, Jefferson, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ashe County Coalition for the Homeless, P.O. Box 331, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
