Blanche Ellen Souther Baker went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 10, 2018.
Blanche was the daughter of the late Oney and Julia Maude Souther.
She worked at C.P. Clare of Fairview and Young Generations in the Fabric Department in Hendersonville. She has been a member of the Henderson County Crafters Association for 35 years. Doing crafts, sewing and crocheting household and baby items was something she loved. If you came by for a visit, there you would find her crocheting something.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jerome “Perry” Baker, who died in 2014, and a son, Larry Eugene Baker; three sisters, Nola Buckner, IdaBelle Travis, and Julia Ruth McNeil; four brothers, Lenard, Edward, Floyd and Forest Souther.
She is remembered by her daughter, Gale Wilkie and her husband, Gary, of Fletcher. Blanche is also remembered by her five grandchildren: Jerome Wilkie and his wife, Amy, of Fletcher; Cristy Youngblood and her husband, Eddie, of Fletcher; Shane Baker and his wife, Sybilla, of Texas; Lisa Gordon and her husband, Shawn, of Tuxedo and Jason Baker and his wife, Amanda, of Tuxedo. Blanche will be greatly missed by 11 great-grandchildren, Ivey, Emma, Isaac and Avlyn Wilkie; Dakota and Savanna Youngblood; Cameron Baker and his wife, Carly; MiKayla Baker; Sienna and Garrett Gordon; Faith and Blake Baker and one great great grandchild, Avery O’Harrow. Blanche is survived by one sister, Bertha “Pat” Souther Bacon and husband, Phillip of Scottsdale, Arizona, along with several nieces and nephews. Blanche will also be remembered by many close neighbors, friends, and fellow crafters.
Services will be held at Fletcher First Baptist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM and at other times at the daughter’s home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3:00 PM officiated by the Revs. Roy Waldroup, David Gentry and grandson-in-law, Eddie Youngblood. Interment will follow in Hoopers Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Jerome, Ivey and Isaac Wilkie, Dakota Youngblood, John Smith, Louis Franklin and Weldon Baldwin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
