Ruth Mason Nesbitt, 93, of Hendersonville, passed away Wednesday, June 13 at Fleshers Fairview Healthcare Center.
A native of Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Faye Plemmons Mason. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Henry Nesbitt, who died in 2008, as well as four siblings, Virginia Merrill, Evelyn Nesbitt, Helen Reece and Bill Mason.
Ruth retired from Southern Bell following 25 years of service as a switchboard operator. She was a devoted member of French Broad Baptist Church and will forever be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who carried a dignified strength and independence all throughout her life.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Evans; one granddaughter, Haley Evans; one sister, Yvonne Stratton; several nieces and nephews and her extended church family at French Broad Baptist Church.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 26 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastor Kemuel Pruitt officiating. Her family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, her family graciously asks that memorial donations be made to either Four Seasons Compassion For Life Hospice, 581 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
The family wishes to give a special thanks to the staff at Fleshers Fairview Healthcare Center for the loving care that Ruth was extended during her stay there.
