  1. I would like to offer my condolences to Mrs. Bowen and to Dr. Bowen’s family. Dr. Bowen was a valued colleague at the University of Tennessee who made excellent contributions to our international programs in the Institute of Agriculture. During the 1990’s, we conducted a series of international training programs on issues in sustainable development. Dr. Bowen’s presentations on planning in the Caymans were outstanding. It was a privilege to have known and worked with him.

    • Thank you so very much! My husband loved the caymans. Loved his work! I’ve a trip planned to the Caymans to scatter his ashes during the week of Thanksgiving this year. Maybe we could talk about his work there before I go? That would be wonderful! His loving wife, Angie

  2. I was saddened to learn of the passing of George Bowen, a colleague and friend at the University of Tennessee for seventeen years. We worked on many projects together, in Tennessee and abroad. George was an inspiring teacher and well-regarded by his students. Eleanor and I extend our deep condolences to Mrs. Bowen and the Bowen family.

  3. It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of my esteemed professor, George Bowen, in 2018. I recently discovered this news during an online search and felt compelled to express my heartfelt condolences.

Professor Bowen was my mentor when I attended a program at the University of Tennessee in 1995 as a Fulbright short-term visiting professional. . He also spent a couple of months in Cyprus as a short-term scholar, and we worked closely during his time here.

Although many years have passed since we last communicated, I wanted to convey my deepest sympathies to his family and all who were close to him.

  4. George was one of my beloved Professors at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Planning. He was a tuff professor but oh so caring for his students. Taught me a lot about life. He inspired me to achieve and go forth to do “good things’. he will be forever endured in my heart as a professor, coach, philosopher and guide to my professional career. The woeld lost a great teacher/mentor in the passing of Professor Bowen. RIP George Bowen.
