Roy Lewis Penley

Roy Lewis “Butch” Penley, 59, of 616 Johnston School Road, Asheville, died Thursday, November 28, 2002. Mr. Penley was born in Buncombe County and was a son of Roy Penley of Asheville and the late Mary Alice Rice Penley. He was also preceded in death by his son Roy Lee Penley. He was very much loved and will be missed by his son, Jeff Penley of Blacksville, SC; two sisters, Diane Meadows of Leicester and Donna McLamb of Currie, NC; a brother, James Penley of Candler; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Sheila Roseborough, Tammy Meadows, David and Kevin McLamb, and Jason and Melissa Penley; four half-sisters, Shirley Ruiz of California, Sharon Baker of the Netherlands, Sheila Willis of Colorado and Debbie Darcet of Oklahoma; and a half-brother, Charles Hayes of NJ; and nieces and nephews of the half-brother and half-sisters. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue with the Rev. Earl Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Graveyard Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
