Charles “Charlie” Jones, 86, of 32 Jones Patton Road, Leicester, died Sunday, December 8, 2002, at his residence.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Viannia Waldrop Jones. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Vauldie Huntsinger Jones, who died in 1994 and by his second wife, Evangeline Austin Jones, who died in 1999. He was a member of Bell United Methodist Church and attended Georgetown Baptist Church. He was retired from American Enka/BASF and was a full-time farmer.
Survivors include two sons, Garey Jones and his wife Cheryl and Jerry Jones and his wife Gail, all of Leicester; two brothers, Mont Jones of Leicester and Paul Jones of Goldsboro; a sister, Fina Whitener of Leicester; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday at Bell United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Lee Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Leicester VFD, PO Box 100, Leicester, NC 28748.
