Larry Arthur Moore, 69, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020.
An Asheville native, Larry was a son of the late Arthur Brenas and Alphadean Medford Moore. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Randy Lynn Moore; paternal grandparents, Weldon Ray and Mollie Elizabeth Gregory Moore, and maternal grandparents, James Arel and Clara Isabelle Warren Medford.
Larry was a 1968 graduate of Enka High School and earned a diploma in Machine Shop from AB-Tech. One of his first jobs in the late 1960s was at the Patton Ave. location of McDonald’s, where he ceremoniously cooked and ate the first Big Mac made in Asheville. Mr. Moore spent his career in sales of office furniture and supplies. In his spare time, he was an avid NASCAR and Tennessee Volunteers football fan. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville, where he served as Chairman of the Usher Committee for 30 years, and was also a deacon.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Cole Moore; sister, Diana Chambers (Chris); nephew, Dustin DeBruhl (Jennifer); great-nephews, Grayson and Isaac DeBruhl; and Alan Stevens, who was like a son to Larry.
A private graveside service for his family will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A memorial service celebrating Larry’s life will be held at a later date. For those who wish to pay their respects, Larry will lie in state at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. beginning Thursday morning until Saturday morning.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the COVID-19 Relief Fund c/o First Baptist Church of Asheville, 5 Oak St., Asheville, NC 28801.

I was always impressed to see Larry doing the headcount of the congregation each Sunday at First Baptist. Always a smile and greeting when you would see Larry. Will truly be missed.
Larry had a huge impact on many lives. He will be missed.

Dear Elaine, Larry was just an incredible human being. Anytime you would see him there was such a piece around him and you could feel the Lord‘s presence. Anytime he spoke it was in such a kind and gentle way even if you were having a bad day it seems like it would just put you at peace. He will be missed by so many people, he touched so many lives. He had gone through so many different things but he never gave up at any time and had such a positive attitude. Please know that Wanda and I are praying for you and ALAN and the rest of the family. Call me if you need anything.

Few people have the wonderful combination of humbleness, kindness, dedication and grace that Larry had which he regularly demonstrated for all of us. And oh, that beautiful, ever-present smile. We will miss a great servant of First Baptist Church of Asheville and friend to so many people. And yet we take great comfort in knowing Larry has walked into the presence of the Lord as a true and faithful servant. And so we thank God for Larry and ask Him to hold Elaine in His mighty palm and comfort her. We love you Elaine.
