Born in: Volusia Co, FL
Resided in: Arden, NC

Kay Johnston Roberts, 74, a native of Holly Hill, Florida, died Sept. 27, 2020 at her home in Avery’s Creek, North Carolina. Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Gene Roberts; one son, Tim Roberts (Robyn); one daughter, Ann Ross; granddaughters Hope Roberts Staley, Emma Roberts, Jenna Lynch (Colin), Tori Ross and Samantha Ross, and one great granddaughter, Jo Jo Staley, as well as extended family and friends in the Greater Daytona Beach, Florida area.

To family and friends, Kay Roberts was known as “Bear,’’ an appropriate nickname for someone who was ferociously protective of her family and friends. She married Gene, the love of her life, and they embarked on a journey that would give them a beautiful daughter and handsome son, as well as taking them around the country and into Canada with Gene’s job. After years of traveling, Kay and Gene were happy to settle into the former home of Kay’s grandmother the North Carolina mountains, where she visited often as a child. From there, she kept track of her family, created thoughtful, handmade gifts and used her electronic device to stay connected to many friends. She loved to read and was always a kind, non-judgmental voice to those who reached out. The voice of this hippie girl who loved VW buses and cars will always be missed.

  3. My deepest condolences to all of you…I first met Kay through her cousin and my dear childhood friend Malinda, way back in the late 60’s…Kay was so kind and happy all the time, always smiling and full of love for all…I was glad FB reconnected us and I will miss her posts…may God provide all of you with peace and comfort, she touched so many lives, including mine….🙏🏼❤️😢

  4. Kay was an inspiration and a beacon of light. We talked quite a bit on messenger. We talked about a song my grandmother loved. “I’m A Winner Either Way” She would reach out and say that is how she felt and admired my grandmother’s spunk. I admired Kay. She was so genuinely happy and optimistic. She was just a great human. I will be praying for you all.

  5. Ann, I am truly sorry for your loss. I know the difficulty of caring for a parent with health issues, and the mixed feelings that come when they are released from their pain and into God’s arms. Perhaps she will meet my Dad in Heaven at the Newcomer’s Club? Eventually, your heart starts to heal, but don’t be afraid to lean on friends in the meantime. Love you!

  6. We will so miss your mama bear. We will always have a place in our hearts for her. Tho struggles of her own she always reached out to others in their lowest times. Please take time to grieve however that looks for you, and know that the pain will hit at times that are unexpected, and cannot be prepared for, but the memories are always there to comfort. Just close your eyes, and you will feel her with you, a mother’s love truly never ends, it is an eternal love. I love you tons!!!
