Vincent “PeeWee” Baker, 77, of Asheville went to be with Jesus on December 30, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Diana Gosnell Baker; his two daughters, Elizabeth and Krystal; two brothers, Perry (Colleen) and Jr (Janet); two sisters, Kathy and Sue; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jesse Baker in November, 2020; four brothers (Gilbert, Parnell, Ronnie, and Larry); and his parents, Orbin and Opal Baker.

He was born in New Richmond, OH, and moved South to NC in 1967 after the military. He was an Army Veteran serving from 1965-1967 and he was a Sharpshooter. He was a member of East Asheville United Methodist Church and the Haw Creek Lions Club for the past 30 years. He worked for Shoney’s for 30 years (1967-1997) as a Manager and a Cook. He then worked at the Cornerstone Restaurant for 15 years (1997-2012) as a Cook until he retired. Pee Wee loved going on cruises with his family and vacations in general.

A funeral service is planned for Monday, January 4th, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road. Masks are required. A burial will follow at Shade Shelton Cemetery in Madison County, NC.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to East Asheville United Methodist Church, 48 Browndale Road, Asheville, NC 28805 in memory of PeeWee Baker.

  3. I have so many fond memories of PeeWee, from softball trips to Carowinds with the youth group. We will miss him. Our prayers are with all the family.

    I am so so sorry for your loss. Even though we have not seen each other for several years I still remember the fun times we had when we met up or visited and I cherish them.
    Peewee was such a good husband and dad who showed his great love for each of you. You all were the light of his life.
    Remember the good times and the great memories. Hold on to them and know that even though he is not here with you he will forever be in your heart.

    Our Deepest Condolences for the loss of Pee Wee. He was a wonderful man that will truly be missed. We were fortunate enough to work side by side with him for 15 years. His laugh was contagious and his good nature was inspiring. His love for his family and friends was evident in everything he did. He was a caring soul who everyone enjoyed being around.
