Dr. John Dwight Ware III M.D., 73, passed away January 9th, 2021 in Asheville, NC.
Born May 29, 1947 in Savannah, GA to Dr. John D. Ware Jr. and Madge Ware, he learned early on how to enjoy life and also work hard for what was important to him. He could easily make friends and enjoyed adventuring around Savannah. At the same time he was dutifully committed to the Boy Scouts of America, becoming an Eagle Scout at 15. Upon graduation from Benedictine Military School, John moved to Atlanta, GA to continue his education at Emory University. Despite making the most of undergraduate social life, including meeting his future wife, Margaret Ellen Lyle, at a Fraternity/Sorority mixer, John maintained focus on his schoolwork and graduated with a B.S. in Biology and then a Masters in Microbiology. He married his love, Margaret, in the summer of ‘69, trained in the Army Reserves, and then started the next chapter of his life following his true calling, medicine.
John completed his medical degree and training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology in 1979 from Emory University. Moving to Anderson, SC after his training in Atlanta, John would spend the next 34 years caring for countless patients in the area. He absolutely loved being a physician and helping others in any way he knew how. He would spend as much time and attention as was needed to care for his patients in his office, at the hospital, or even sometimes at their homes.
If you met John, you would instantly feel his kindness and warmth. If you crossed him regarding his patients or loved ones, you might feel his bite. He was a loving father and husband who enjoyed going on adventures and traveling. Throughout his life, he had a strong connection to water. He spoke fondly of his youth adventures in the sweltering summer on Tybee Island, found peace relaxing by a serene lake, or got lost by spending hours fishing in a cold mountain stream. Later in life, John enjoyed volunteering his time with his local Boy Scout troop, going on mountain drives with his wife, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret; his brother, Jimmy (Francie); his 3 sons, Connor (Kelly), Patrick (Sloan), and James (Jane); and his 6 grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to your local Boy Scouts troop or Boy Scouts of America.
