Roy Elden Duncan, 83, of Arden went home to be with the Lord on February 9, 2021. Born in Burnsville, NC on February 28, 1937 he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Ann Duncan, parents William and Zettie Duncan of Burnsville, NC and a brother John Duncan of Brevard, NC.
He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law and friend. He is lovingly remembered by his 4 children and their spouses: Vikki Duncan Bailey (Mike), Gaye Duncan Walker (Bob), Ray Elden Duncan (Karen) and Veneshia Duncan Ridout (Glen); 8 grandchildren; Jonathan and Timothy Bailey (Claire), Graham Duncan (Vanessa), Duncan Walker and Jennings, Lucy, Charlie and Willow Ridout; 3 great grandchildren, Ella Bailey, Oliver and Beatrix Bailey as well as several nieces and nephews. He was a humble, quiet man of few words but loved to tell a joke or play a trick on his children, grandchildren or great grandchildren every chance he got. He was also the person you wanted around if anything needed to be fixed or repaired rather than replaced. He was a lover of home and family.

Vikki, Gaye, Ray and Veneshia, I was very surprised when seeing my cousin, Elden’s obituary this morning. It is such a shame that we loose touch with those we grew up, laughed, mourned and loved with for many years. You were blessed to be raised in a wonderful home with loving parents who were proud and supportive of their children.
Elden was a good man who lived his faith and love for his Lord. Our daddy, Enzy and Elden shared lots of laughs when together and laughter would spread throughout the family as they shared their jokes and Readers Digest stories. Elden’s death makes me grieve this morning for so many loved ones that we miss their sweet presence here with us. My prayers are with you throughout this time and may your memories always be sweet ones that bring a smile and warm your heart.
Love you
Dear Duncan Family,

I had the privilege of working with Elden for many years at Sears. He was always an encourager and an honest man of great integrity. He and Elizabeth were the perfect couple. Elden was the ideal employee: dependable, honest, cheerful, humble but able to lead and train others. He’s probably telling St. Peter a joke at this very minute. He will be sorely missed by many.
11 and make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: you should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you
12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders ( unbelievers) and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
Thank you Dad for the great example you have been to us.
Love you and see you and Mom before long.

Eldon and my daddy were cousins. I always enjoyed seeing him and your mom at the Honeycutt Decoration. If our family made a trip to Sears, we made a point to go look for Eldon. He was such a sweet, kind soul and was glad to see kin folk. Family, may you be comforted by sweet memories of your dad and granddad.
I am sorry about the passing of sweet Elden. Your parents were both wonderful people. I wish you all peace and comfort. 💕
Duncan Family. I was so sorry to hear of your loss. My cousin Elden was such a sweet, lovely man and I know how much you will miss him. My Daddy, Enzy Letterman and Elden were very much alike. They were quiet, but humorous. I always looked forward to seeing him and your Mother at our Letterman reunions. He was quick with a joke and often got more laughs from them than those he told them to. We always got a chance to see him at Sears when we shopped in Asheville and it was a treat for us and for him. Wishing you all wonderful memories.
