Doyle D. Cooke passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Care Partners Hospice, Asheville. His wife Louise, daughter Kathy, son-in-law Andy, grandson Nathan, and his sister Ruth were by his side.
Born in Buncombe County, he was the husband of Louise (McFarland) Cooke of Asheville, and the son of the late Charles Porter and Jessie Mae (Lance) Cooke. He was also preceded in death by his brother Charles and sisters Lola and Myrtle.
Doyle was a member of Bent Creek Baptist Church.
He and his wife enjoyed Western Square Dancing with the Skyland Twirlers for over 30 years. An avid outdoorsman, Doyle loved to hunt and fish, and was also a beekeeper.
Doyle worked for the Asheville Citizen as a pressman for 46 years, 20-plus years as a foreman before retiring in 1996.
In addition to his wife of 66 years and those listed above, he is survived by a son David, a grandson Charlie, and a sister, Shirley Parker.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Mission Hospital and at Hospice for their care of Doyle.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
