Diana G. Baker, 66, of Asheville, NC went to be with Jesus on March 23, 2021. She is survived by her two daughters; Elizabeth and Krystal, three brothers; Gene Gosnell (Kathleen), Jack Gosnell and Bruce Gosnell (Pam) and one sister Doris Rice, an numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vincent “PeeWee” Baker of 44 years in December 2020, her son-in-law, Jesse Baker in November 2020, 3 sisters (Freda, Christine, and Frances), one brother (Willard) and her parents, Walter and Nettie Gosnell.

She was born in Greeneville, TN in 1955 and grew up in Little Laurel in Madison County. She attended college both at Western Carolina University and A-B Technical Community College. She was a member of East Asheville United Methodist Church and the Haw Creek Lions Club for the past 30 years. She loved serving others in her church and community. She loved raising her daughters and taking care of her family. She then worked outside of the home at Great American Cookie Company as a Cookie Baker for 13 years and most recently was employed at IFB Solutions for 15 years. Diana loved going on cruises with her family and vacations in general.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to East Asheville United Methodist Church 48 Browndale Road Asheville, NC 28805 in memory of Diana Baker. She loved being the hands and feet of Jesus by packing Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. Donations can also be made to the Alzheimer’s Association- Western Carolina Chapter 4600 Park Road, Suite 250 Charlotte, NC 28209 in memory of Diana Baker. Even though she didn’t have Alzheimer’s, it was close to her heart due to her mother, deceased sisters, and extended family that all had it.

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 29, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road with the Rev. Doug Benton and Rev. Phillip Hurst officiating. Masks are required. Burial will follow at Shade Shelton Cemetery in Madison County, NC.

  11. Our hearts are broken for you both Beth & Krystal, and everyone who was close to Diana, she will be greatly missed. What an example she was for the rest of us. Her love for the Lord and the way she was truly a servant to others. Diana and Peewee lived life to the fullest and spending time with them was always filled with laugher! We are praying that all your memories and God’s strength will carry you through this difficult time! We love you!!

  19. Dear Beth & Krystal, Please know that we are so shocked to hear about Diana. All of your family have always been so dedicated to church and community. Diana was always kind and loving and Pee Wee was too. It just breaks my heart to think about what both of you have endured in the last few months. We love both of you. You seem like family to us.

  21. I met Diana when I worked as the nurse for IFB, and she was a delight to know. We conversed on many subjects, including recipes, and she talked often of her husband and daughters. For me, the world is a sadder place today. I will miss her smile and her giggle.

  22. Thoughts and prayers for the family. Diana went to college together, drove to college together, and became great friends. She was always so sweet and thoughtful of everyone and always wanted to help if she could.

    I am so sorry to hear about your mom and I know there are no words that I can say that will take away your pain or make your sadness go away. My heart is broken for you.
    Your mom was so proud of you both and loved you and your dad with all her heart but I know that you all know that because she showered you with her love.
    She and I had some good times and I will always cherish them. I will always remember the fun times we had during our school days and in later years when we would go out to eat, go shopping or just talk for hours.
    I am sorry I will not be able to come to the funeral but know that my prayers and thoughts are with you both.

    I’m so very sorry to hear of her passing. We went to high school and on double dates together. I loved her very much. She spent nights at my house and I at hers. I’ll never forget her or the good times we had. She was always laughing and smiling about something. I’m sorry I won’t be able to be there today. Love to you all.

  26. Beth and Krystal, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Aunt Diane and Uncle Pee Wee will always live on threw the wonderful memories they left with each and everyone they knew.. They were so funny and their laughter was contagious.
    You girls are a true reflection of the wonderful people they were. Their ability to make others Laugh, their strength, their kind
    and generous hearts, their ever helping hands, and their tremendous faith all show in you girls. An threw you all they will live on. An the wonderful golden hearted gals you are, is a true testimony to their legacy.

  27. I want to express my deepest sympathies to all of Diana’s family and friends. I have just now found out about her passing, and I am shocked and heartbroken too. We were the best of friends back in the day at Laurel High, and I am very proud to have been her high school prom date. I’ll bet that I am the only guy she ever loaned a dress to in high school. (It was for a Beta Club initiation. I’m not THAT kind of guy.) It is said that there are no friends like old friends, and that is oh so true. She will be missed.
